The site won’t be back up this morning and may be down most, if not all of the day. I’d rather have it down an extra day or two and finally fix the outstanding problems than rush it and leave it exactly as it was.

Worst Case Scenario is that it’ll be back by Monday..

I’m looking at eradicating teh problems with IE (and hopefully the new FF) and restoring the old girl to her former glory. Hopefully won’t be out of commission too long.

Well there are still a few little odds and ends to fix up but all the heavy lifting is done.

So now for the announcements.

Firstly. NA has moved.

Well the forum part of it anyway.

It’s new home is

So it’s still NA, just a different kind of NA.

The forum has been migrated to some nice shiny new forum software with lots more features and all the accounts and posts have been moved over as well. There were a couple of hiccups with moving the PMs so at the moment they haven’t been moved.

You’ll also notice a slight reorganisation of some of the boards, there may be a little bit more of that as things are finetuned. I’ve also taken the opportunity to go through the userlist and remove some unused and duplicate accounts. Over the next few weeks I’ll likely be enabling some of the new features on the new board which should make some things a little simpler all around.

Aside from the new URL and forum software there are a few other changes that I’ll outline in detail tommorrow sometime but I’ll give you the highlights here.

1. The new nappyaddicts forums focus will be solely non-commercial. After a set of guidelines have been released and publicised any commericial activity will be requested to be moved to the nappiesaustralia site which will be relaunching with a focus on information about the nappy business in Australia and providing help, information and services and a meeting and discussion place to WAHPs and any other parties interested in Australia’s nappy and associated industries.
2. Before everyone panics. The nappyaddicts forum will still permit selling/trading/swapping etc. however WAHPs and other businesses are requested to respect a few new rules and slight changes to how things are done. Details of this will be forthcoming very soon, until then it’s business as usual.
3. A few of the boards have disappeared from NA and a couple have been placed in the deprecated group. These are boards that will be removed shortly because they they are more appropriate to nappiesaustralia or elsewhere.
4. NA in both it’s forms will be here for quite a long time to come.

If you have any questions/comments please make them on the forums as more people will see them that way.

130,000 posts take a long time to migrate and convert. But it’s just about done. There’s only a few things left to do now then all the new stuff will be done. After that I have a few things to tidy up on the old site so people know what’s going on and then we can re-open.

There’s primarily tidying and setup work going on as we speak. Lots of waiting for files to copy and scripts to run. At least the end result will be closer to what we originally imagined happening.

I will reveal at this point that the NA forums will be moving… sort of

They’ll still be there in all their glory you’ll just be accessing them in a different way. NA was never originally intended to be a forum site that was only ever going to be a secondary thing but certain things happened, one thing lead to another and there we were.

So part of what’s going on tonight and tomorrow is just things realigning themselves to how they were originally intended to be.

Anyway, my scripts are done. I’ll be back later with more news.

I’m not sure if it’s only me. I’ve rebooted the server and connected from a machine in the UK but trying to connect from my machine at home times out.

Hmm just looking at it again it appears people are still posting so it seems that at least SOME people can access it. If you can’t it looks like the problem might be beyond my control and hopefully connectivity will be restored again shortly.

email should still work so admin @ nappies australia etc if you have any problems or questions.

And may very well continue a fair way into Monday.

So don’t be surprised if the forums aren’t back up bright and early on Monday morning.

I’m sure you’ll all survive, if only barely.

But sadly what I’m doing I can’t do with anything interacting with the site. so downtime it is. But it’s all for the best, trust me.

Some technical difficulties with teh site meant I couldn’t do exactly as I had planned. Those are being sorted out as we speak. In the meantime I’ll most likely do some software alterations and upgrades etc.

So site should be up and down most of the night.
